Non-Tourist Employment Category

An employment visa allows a foreign national to work in Bhutan, and those holding this visa may stay and work in the Kingdom for a maximum period of one year.

  • Casual visitors are Indian nationals from bordering towns and districts who enter the bordering towns of Bhutan for leisure, shopping, dining, meeting friends or other non-employment purposes, using a voter ID card or Indian passport, and must exit within 24 hours.

  • Pilgrims to Gomkora (who must remain within Trashi Yangtse) and Hindu pilgrims to the Jayanti Mahakal Temple near Phuentsholing are Indian nationals traveling with a voter ID card or Indian passport.

  • Recommending agency to submit application to the Cabinet Secretary for consideration of any category not listed in this list as non-tourists.
